About Us:
S:Mile is an award-winning smart city startup based in Seoul. It operates under the research and development department of Studio POPPOP.
In June 2022, the project team were one of the three winners of the WeGo Smart City Competition and recieved the Seoul Mayoral award at the Seoul Smart City Leadership Forum at the DDP.
Our Mission:
Empower communities to actively engage in and benefit from the creation of an inclusive, transparent, and decentralized fueling network. Giving everyone an opportunity to become a prosumer and directly benefit from the current Industrial and EV revolution
Our Initiative:
This initiative responds to three main problems with the proliferation of EV adoption and smart city planning:
1) There is a growing regional imbalance with the implementation of smart technology in South Korea, especially in small cities and peri-urban areas.
2) Despite the increasing importance of low-emission vehicles, there is a severe delay in their diffusion rates in rural areas, particularly due to range anxiety spurred by a lack of EV charging points.
3) The lack of mobility data outside of larger cities results in diminishing opportunities for the implementation of smart mobility technology in rural areas.
To tackle these critical challenges, the objective of S:Mile is to disrupt the traditional commercial vehicular fueling industry by offering a holistic solution that provides a subsidized photovoltaic (PV) EV charging system based on a building-to-grid (B2G) platform to empower people and businesses to directly provide EV charging services to consumers.
By incorporating the ‘smart city’ way of thinking, rural communities will also have the ability to actively engage in and benefit from the creation of an inclusive, transparent, and decentralized fueling network.
